Description

This late Victorian Wool Work pattern was published in the French Magazine “Journal Des Demoiselles” as a free pattern in 1874.  It follows the romantic woodland flowers that were popular at the time as the push was away from decided symmetry to a more free flowing design genre as described by William Morris.  This pattern, remember, would have been executed on either Java canvas which was 8 stitches to the inch, or Penelope canvas which was 10 stitches to the inch.  Based on that, this would have originally been designed for a carpet or a large sofa seat.  The design is  by far, one of the largest designs in the collection at 340 stitches wide by 247 stitches tall and uses 64 DMC colors to complete.
