Description
This 1860’s design comes from a finished work in the seller’s collection. The design originally graced the front of a lady’s hand held face screen which protected her face from the heat of the fireplace or kerosene lamp. Made up of red roses and purple asters, it uses 32 DMC colors and is 119 stitches wide by 120 stitches tall. Originally the background was unworked and was executed on very fine wire mess, surrounded by green silk fringe with an ivory bone handle. Quite the style at the time.
