Description

This pattern was sent to me by a customer and hails from the 1860s based on the design elements.  While a pattern maker is not known, it could easily be attributed to either Hertz and Wegener or Louis Gluer, as they have had similar floral subjects in their designs.  It is quite large and was probably meant to be either a sofa seat or a central medallion for a carpet.  The pattern is 374 stitches wide by 221 stitches tall, and using 63 DMC colors it would be an impressive piece in any home.  The pattern is shown against a black background which would have been the background color of choice after the death of Prince Albert, but would look striking against almost any color.
