1870'S FRENCH CHAIRSEAT - $11 USD

This 1870's pattern of a chairseat comes from France an was a supplement to the Journal Des Demoiselles, imprinted "1 Boulevart Des Italiens" on the bottom of the pattern.  The following description was supplied to me by a dear friend- "You can see that it is a "patriotical" piece, meaning that they have used DMC colors of the French flag. the fleur-de-lis in the middle is impressive. The gold beads are used liberally and many of them depict rich, class and chic. while the motifs around the flowers are repeated systematically and liberally in gold color. The design says it is for a formal atmosphere. Also it is a neutral design ( men or women) can sit on it.  It has a formal flair to it , yet seriously rigid. Everything is repeated with the same precision; very little free flowing, suggesting it was designed to be used in a high court, a high dignitary place of gathering like an opera for the rich and famous alike. 1 boulevard des italiens: this is one of four or five most significant places in Paris. It spreads across several streets and is the place of operas well known around the world. This tells us that the seat probably was used in one of the operas on the balcony because it was there that the "high" class of the high class would witness a show at the opera. Therefore the best seats used to be there".   Comprised of just 11 DMC colors, the design is 252 stitches wide by 239 stitches tall.  The pattern, from the seller's collection, was copied exactly including any imperfections.  The two sides are not mirror images due to intricate shading to give a three dimentional affect.
